Challenge
The process of requesting quotes for plastic bottles was slow and inefficient, relying heavily on email and phone communication between clients and suppliers. This often led to delays, miscommunication, and difficulty comparing product variations such as color, coating, and thickness. Additionally, there was no clear way for clients to visualize or confirm their selected product features, increasing the risk of errors in orders.
Another major challenge was that the quote request form was extremely long and complex, requiring clients to fill it out on paper with the assistance of a sales manager to guide them through the process. This manual method added significant friction to the quoting experience, further extending the response time. Combined with the fact that the quoting process typically took between 10 to 30 days, this created a frustrating and inefficient experience for both clients and the company.
Goal
Design a platform that streamlined the quote request process by allowing clients to easily compare product variations, submit quote requests, and review product details — reducing reliance on manual communication and minimizing errors.
A key objective was to ensure that quotes could be generated and delivered within 24 hours, significantly accelerating the purchasing process and improving the client experience.
Additionally, the goal was to simplify the form experience to make it easier for clients to complete requests independently without requiring guidance from a sales manager.
Solution
I approached the project through a user-centered design process. I started by collaborating with stakeholders to understand business objectives and pain points. From there, I designed user flows to map out the quote request journey and created low-fidelity mockups to explore different solutions.
One of the key improvements was splitting the lengthy form into clear, manageable sections, reducing cognitive load and making it easier for clients to complete the process independently. I also designed an auto-save feature, ensuring that users could pause and resume their quote request without losing progress. Additionally, I introduced a product comparison feature, allowing clients to easily compare variations like color, coating, and thickness in one view. I also designed a clear order summary screen so users could verify all their selections before submitting a request.
I worked closely with stakeholders, Product Owners, and developers to ensure the platform aligned with business goals and technical feasibility.
The result was a platform that reduced quote request time from 10-30 days to under 24 hours, minimized errors, and empowered clients to complete quotes independently without assistance, significantly improving the user experience and operational efficiency for the company.
